National Speed Limit Reduction in Thailand
Recently there has been a speed limit reduction in Bangkok, with a maximum of 50 kph on roads close to the royal palace and 60 kph on most Bangkok roads. Studies have shown that in a road crash, the likelihood of death increases by 20% when driving at 60 kph and increases by 60% when driving at 80 kph. Thailand also remains one of 15 countries in the world that still has a speed limit of 80 kph.
What's the Problem?
Although Bangkok is leading by example, nationwide, Thailand still has a speed limit of 80 kph, which means much more fatal accidents. By nationally decreasing the speed limit, the drivers will be more inclined to drive at a safer speed, leading to less deadly road accidents, and safer Thai roads.
What can you do to help?
Act now by signing the petition and urging the Thai government to put in place a national speed limit reduction of 60 kph, following in the footsteps of Bangkok.
